Shane Co is one of the biggest jewelers in the United States. The company is actually one of the largest privately owned companies in the fine jewelry industry. The headquarters of this company are located in Denver, Colorado. We take a closer look at this company and the products they offer in this Shane Co review.

Shane Co has about 20 physical retail outlets across the United States. The company imports rubies, diamonds and sapphires directly. They only deal with natural diamonds and do not have any lab created diamonds on their website. Their diamonds are also conflict free meaning that they are sourced from reputable diamond suppliers.

History of Shane Co

Shane Co was founded by Tom Shane back in 1971. Shane was a graduate of business administration from the University of Colorado where he graduated in 1970. The Shane’s had a family business has been started in Cleveland, Ohio by his grandfather, Charles Shane. This jewelry business had been in existence since the Great Depression.

After World War II, Tom Shane’s father, Richard Shane, joined his brother, Claude Shane and their father in running the family business. Later on, Claude Shane and Richard Shane split the business into two jewelry chains. Tom Shane took over the family business in 1971 and transformed it by remodeling. Over the decades that followed, he grew the company from a one store location to 20 locations in different parts of the United States.

In January 2009, the Shane Company filed for bankruptcy. The company closed three of its locations, in Florida, Georgia and Washington. They filed for a plan for reorganization in 2010 to pay of all the company debts. In December 2010, the Shane Co emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The Shane Co is known by its radio advertisements and their tagline, “Now you have a friend in the diamond business.”

What makes Shane Co stand out?

One of the things that stands out about Shane and Co is that they have a customizing option for their rings. This means that you can create and design your own ring and they will bring it to life. The first step into customizing your ring is choosing a setting. The next step is to choose a stone and then to add something else you may prefer such as a crown to decorate the ring.

The customer service at Shane Co also stands out. The company has non-commissioned jewelry consultants all across their stores. These experts will help you choose the perfect engagement rings and gifts. You can contact them through email, telephone or from one of the Shane Co stores.

Shane Co Refund Policies and Customer Service

Warranty

Shane and Co offers a lifetime warranty on their items. They believe in their products and their superior craftsmanship which is why they have a lifetime warranty. Their warranty covers every aspect of your purchased jewelry.

Upgrade policy

Shane Co has some of the most comprehensive and generous trade in and upgrade policy. You can receive full value for a purchased item as credit when purchasing another item of greater value. This policy applies to rubies, sapphires, diamonds and other gemstones. All you need is a minimum dollar increase for diamonds and gemstones. For you to be able to trade in jewelry metal, you will need to spend double the amount you spent on the original purchase.

Items such as pearls, rubber, stainless steel, rubber, tungsten and carbon fiber cannot be traded in because they deteriorate over time. For the same reasons, titanium and cobalt items can also not be traded in. One thing that stands out about their trade in policy is that, you can trade in some precious gemstones and gold that are second hand jewelry not purchased from Shane Co originally. This will be based on the market value of the gemstones and the metal.

Returns

Shane Co has a 60 day money back guarantee. This means that if you purchase an item at Shane Co but you are not happy about it, you can return it to them within 60 days of the purchase. The requirements for the item to be accepted is that the item must be in its original condition. It should also not have been worked on by another jeweler outside Shane and Co. Custom rings and engraved items cannot be returned once purchased.

Shane Co Vs Jared

Shane and Co and Jared happen to be two of the biggest jewelry retail companies. They are some of the companies that come to mind for someone looking to purchase a ring which is why we compare them in this Shane Co review. Jared is both an online and brick and mortar company with over 274 physical stores. Shane Co is mainly online with just about 20 showrooms.

One of the differences between these two companies is the year in which they were started. Jared was started in 2000 while Shane and Co was started in 1929. This means that Shane and Co has been in the industry for a very long time compared to Jared. Another significant difference between the two companies is in regard to the pricing. While Shane and Co prices are relatively high, Jared offers their products at relatively affordable prices.

Another difference between the two companies is that while Shane and Co is a family owned business, Jared is not. Jared is a company that operates under Signet, a worldwide parent company that has other jewelry retail companies operating under it. The third difference between these two companies is on the warranty. Shane and Co offers its customers a lifetime resizing warranty while Jared only offers it for 6 months.

FAQ

Is Shane Co a good jewelry store?

When it comes to selling jewelry, Shane and Co is a good jewelry store, but it can definitely do better. This company sells certified diamonds alongside uncertified ones. This means that when you walk into one of their stores to purchase a ring, they will not put in effort to direct you towards purchasing a certified diamond. Their classic rings are amazing, but their cuts are still not outstanding.

Will Shane Co buy back a ring?

Shane and Co has a trade in policy for their rings. This means that when you purchase a ruby, sapphire or diamond ring, you can receive credit on the full value of the ring towards purchasing another gemstone or diamond ring of greater value. It also means that you can trade in certain rings for other rings of higher value, as long as you spend a certain specified amount.

Is Shane Co good quality?

Shane and Co offer a wide range of rings that feature diamonds in different shapes and sizes. While they have some great looking rings, their quality is rather questionable. While some of their diamonds are certified, most of them are not certified. For you to really understand the value and quality of a diamond, you should get one that has a GIA / IGI/ AGS certificate. The fact that they lack these certificates means that you cannot ascertain their diamond quality.
